Alappuzha (Kerala): The multidisciplinary team deployed by the Centre to evaluate the situation in the bird flu hit areas of the State will reach Kerala’s Alappuzha on Thursday.
The team would visit and evaluate the situation in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts where the avian influenza genus H5N8 has been confirmed. As the Government had declared the H5N8 bird flu as a State calamity, the team would review the measures taken by the administration in the flu-hit districts to check the spread of the disease and also to prevent further transmission.
The Central officials are to visit Pallippadu, Karuvatta, Thakazhi and Nedumudi panchayaths in Alappuzha district and Neendoor ni Kottayam District, and meet the farmers and the animal husbandry officers.
Besides Kerala, bird flu outbreaks have been reported in a few other States in India too. The National level financial package for the farmers affected due to the bird flu outbreak would also be discussed during the visit. The team would visit the other affected States also.
Meanwhile, evaluation meetings were convened, chaired by K Raju, State Minister, Department of Forests, and Animal Husbandry, at both Alappuzha and Kottayam District Collectorates, on Wednesday. The preventive measures and the follow-up actions have been discussed in the meeting.
