Quarrel erupts over Covid at Kerala polling station

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) workers protested when those who are under COVID quarantine were brought to the polling booth in Kottayam in a private vehicle without following the COVID protocol.

Kottayam: A quarrel was reported from a polling booth in Kottayam, Kerala during the second phase of local body elections on Thursday, alleging that COVID protocol was not being followed.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) workers protested when those who are under COVID quarantine were brought to the polling booth in Kottayam in a private vehicle without following the COVID protocol.

It all began when the LDF workers raised an alarm seeing the driver of the private vehicle who bought 14 of the sisters from SH Convent, walking around in the premises without even wearing a PPE kit against the protocol.

Following that, the LDF workers demanded the officers verify the certificates of those claiming to be on COVID quarantine who had reached to vote in private vehicles.

The dispute snowballed when the LDF workers alleged that the driver is the son of the UDF candidate. Though the police reached the booth, the workers continued their protest at Baker Memorial School.

Later, they calmed down and said the election process should not be disrupted.

However, the LDF workers have clarified that they would seek to initiate legal actions on the incident.
