30-year-old becomes victim of mob lynching in Kerala

A man who was brutally assaulted by a mob on charges of theft near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala succumbed to injuries early Monday morning at the Medical College Hospital, police confirmed. The incident took place on December 11.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a gruesome case of mob lynching, a 30-year-old succumbed to injuries on Monday morning after being brutally attacked by a mob on charges of theft, here, said the police.

According to reports, the 30-year-old Ajesh was brutally beaten up by a mob comprising of a few auto-rickshaw drivers at his house in Pappanchani after a native of Malappuram district complained that he stole his cell-phone and wallet.The purported theft took place on December 11 in Thampanoor.

As per sources, Ajesh was beaten and brutalised by the mob at his house when a hot metal object was placed on his stomach and genital, after he denied charges of theft against him.

Unable to bear the pain, he managed to flee but collapsed just a few feet away from his house and it was the police who admitted him to the Medical College hospital, last Wednesday.

The Thiruvallam police now have taken four auto drivers and the neighbour of Ajesh into custody.

Thiruvananthapuram: Police arrested five persons for brutally beating a youth to death alleging theft at Thiruvallam here. They are searching for two more in connection with the incident. The incident happened on last Wednesday. Accusing Vandithadam native Ajish of stealing a mobile phone and purse, a group of men attacked him.



The accused, after beating him up at Vandithadam junction, took him to Ajish’s house to trace the money and the phone. There, Ajish had to undergo severe thrashing as the accused could not retrieve the phone or cash. In an effort to make Ajish spill the beans, the accused heated up an iron rod and inflicted burn injuries on Ajish’s body including his genitals.



It is reported that that brutal attack took place while local residents watched on but did not intervene. In a desperate effort to save himself, Ajish ran out of his house to a field nearby where he collapsed. On information from local residents, police came to the spot and found Ajish lying in the field. They rushed him to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College where he died on Monday. Police arrested and remanded five persons including auto drivers and Ajish’s neighbour. They are searching for one more who is also involved in the case.
