Belagavi: Former Karnataka minister Vinay Kulkarni is in judicial custody for a day in connection with the murder of Dharwad ZP member Yogeshgouda. He spent the night in Hindalga jail of Belagavi as a general prisoner.
Kulkarni is currently lodged in a separate cell in the Red Zone cell of Hindalga Prison as per Covid rules. He is being held in the same cell used for common prisoners. He complained about the cell and appealed to prison staff for a mosquito coil. The trial inmate was given the number 16635.
Kulkarni woke up at 4 am in the morning. He read newspapers after waking up. Prison staff served tea and upma to Kulkarni for breakfast.
The former minister will attend hearing by video conference today at 11.30 am and will appear before Judge Panchakshri of the 2nd Additional District Session Court Dharwad.
CBI Prosecutors had requested to have him detained for three days. But the court-ordered only one-day judicial detention.
If the court extends his judicial detention, Kulkarni will have to celebrate his birthday in Hindalaga Jail. Former Minister Kulkarni's 55th birthday is tomorrow (Saturday).
