WATCH: The successful voyage story of 6 female crew

Six female crew members of Indian Navy led have completed 'Navika Sagar Parikrama'-- the circumnavigation of globe on INSV Tarini. The crew was led by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi. It has covered 21600 miles sailing round the globe.

Bengaluru: Six female crew members of Indian Navy led by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi have completed 'Navika Sagar Parikrama'-- the circumnavigation of globe on INSV Tarini.

The total expedition was carried on for254 days, which covered 21600 miles sailing round the globe.

The crew also comprised of Lt Commander Pratibha Jamwal, Lt Commander Swati P, Lt Aishwarya Boddapati, Lt S Vijaya Devi and Lt Payal Gupta.

It was their first ever global journey.

Speaking on inequality of gender in a student interaction at Bengaluru's Mt. Carmel women's college an officer said, "Nothing stopped us from going around the world, what would stop you?"

The yacht had a maximum speed of 11 km/hour and the crew had to overcome a storm of over 200 km/hour amidst the voyage.

The expedition documentary will be aired on National Geographic channel on March 8, being International women's day, at 9 P.M.
