Ramanagara district has the second largest silk market in Asia. Thousands of tonnes of silk are traded in this market every day. Not only from Ramanagar district but also from other districts including Chamarajanagar, Mysore, Tumkur and Kolar, silk is brought and sold here.

The hardships that silk growers face:

Silk growers are demanding that the state and the central government should promptly encourage the silk crop and declare compensation for the crop lost during the corona. Silk growers have been severely impacted by the Covid-19.

In the past, the government was giving incentives to silk growers and stopped giving it now. During the month of February and March, Rs. 500 to Rs. 600 were paid to one kg of silkworm nest. But now the price of each kg of silkworm nest is Rs. 100 to Rs. 200. This created plight to the farmers.

Farmers demand:

* Permanent support price for silk nest

* High tech market in the district

* Accommodation for farmers who come to sell silk nest

* Break to brokers

* Provide adequate transport facility

* Establishment of silkworm nest Storage Market
