Udupi man trashes Kambala jockey's sprint record in Kambala race
Udupi man smashes the sprint record of famous Kambala Jockey Srinivasa Gowda in the traditional buffalo race. Nishant Shetty ran a distance of 143 metres in just 13.61 seconds!
Mangaluru: Srinivasa Gowda, who is being hailed as faster than iconic Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has got a competition from a fellow competitor in the traditional buffalo race, 'Kambala'.
According to reports, Nishant Shetty from Udupi district of Karnataka has clocked 13.61 seconds covering a distance of 143 metres, smashing the sprint record of Gowda, who ran a distance of 100 meters in just 9.55 seconds.
The jockey has started drawing a comparison between Jamaica's Usain Bolt's world record of sprinting 100 metres in 9.58 seconds.

Kambala is an annual buffalo race held in the coastal region of Karnataka where buffaloes are driven by a whip-lashing farmer in a slushy paddy field.
Traditionally, it is sponsored by local Tuluva landlords and households in erstwhile South Karnataka region consisting the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in Karnataka and Kasaragod district of Kerala.
The annual event draws large crowds and even the participants train hard with some building exclusive pools for the buffaloes to train in.
