7-year-old boy leads the way in social responsibility

A seven-year-old in Karnataka took upon himself the job of fixing potholes on a road after he saw motorists struggling. Using his bare hands the young boy showed what social responsibility truly means.

Bidar: All of us face difficulties in our daily routine but how many of us actually do something to make life better? A seven-year-old boy in Karnataka has set an example of being a responsible citizen when he took upon himself the job of fixing potholes on a road.

Karnataka boy fixes potholes

The boy who was walking home, saw motorists face difficulties and traffic jams due to craters filled with rainwater under a railway bridge between Ashoka Hotel and the Mailaur Cross in Bidar.

He decided to solve the problem himself and cleaned the nearby sewage drain on the road. Using a thick sheet of iron he spread gravel and sand on the potholes, levelling them with by his bare hands.

On being asked why he is fixing the holes on the roads, he said, "Due to these a lot of accidents are happening and I want to stop them.

Amid the gloomy situation caused by the pandemic, the young boy's determination and humanity is sure to inspire many to step in the hour of need and help the society.

According to a report released by the highways ministry in November 2019, the number of people killed on Indian roads recorded a rise of 2.37 per cent to 1.51 lakh in 2018 and 70 per cent of the victims were between 18 and 45 years of age.

A total of 1.47 lakh people were killed in road crashes in 2017, according to the annual report 'Road Accidents in India, 2018' brought out by the ministry's transport research wing.
