Bengaluru: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award would henceforth be called the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the BJP national general secretary, CT Anand Ravi is pushing to get the Indira Canteen, a food subsidisation programme run by the Government of Karnataka, renamed to Annapoorneshwari Canteen.
"Request Chief Minister Sri @BSBommai to rename Indira Canteens across Karnataka as "Annapoorneshwari Canteen" at the earliest," he tweeted.
Ravi said that the people of Karnataka did not need a reminder of the dark days of the emergency while they have food in the Indira canteen.
The canteen was started during the tenure of Siddaramaiah as chief minister of the state during the Congress government.

Since coming to power, the BJP has gone on a renaming spree. From roads to cities to government schemes, the tactic has been criticised by the opposition and others alike, who have accused the government of trying to change history. On the other hand, the use of the Gandhi family members in government projects and programs has also become a topic of debate.
