Kalaburagi (Karnataka): More than 1,400 migrant workers from Bihar, who were stranded in Karnataka, left for their native places on a shramik special train from Kalaburagi on Wednesday.
A total of 1,436 migrants boarded the train, which is scheduled to reach Bihar on Friday.
According to reports, the migrants who had come from Bihar, were stranded for the past few weeks in Kalaburagi and other surrounding places due to the lockdown. The migrants then filled an application to be ferried back to their home state.
All the migrants were screened before they were allowed to board the train, and were also provided with food and water by Deputy Commissioner B Sharat.
This is the second shramik special train to depart from Kalaburagi. The first train had recently departed for Uttar Pradesh with 1,500 migrants on board.
The railways had started the migrant special trains on May 1 after the central government gave its approval for transportation of stranded workers on the railway network during the lockdown.
