Mumbai (Maharashtra) : Many questions have been raised about the missing girls from Maharashtra in the editorial of the Saamana, the mouthpiece of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav) group. While the political atmosphere is hotting up due to the controversial film 'The Kerala Story', a shocking fact surfaced that 5,610 young women have gone missing from the state of Maharashtra in the last three months, according to the editorial.
The shocking thing is that a maximum number of 2,200 girls have gone missing in March. An average of 70 girls are going missing every day, Saamana said and called for stringent efforts on the part of the government to curb the menace. The editorial of Saamana comes in the wake of the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government banning the screening of The Kerala Story, saying that the film threatens to disturb peace and communal harmony.
Meanwhile, Rupali Chakankar, President of the State Commission for Women, Maharashtra, has said in a tweet that over 1,600 girls went missing from Maharashtra in the month of January this year, another 1,810 girls went missing in the month of February and 2,200 girls went missing in March. These reports are received by the Women's Commission from the State Police. She termed it alarming that the number of missing girls and women is increasing day by day.

In the Saamana editorial, it is also written that 40,000 women and girls have disappeared from Gujarat in the last 5 years, which is as per the records of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). It is misrepresented that Gujarat is the only model of development in the country, it said. The editorial of Saamana further commented that this one report of NCRB has exposed the situation in Gujarat and this shocking information is enough to tell about the true functioning of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
