Saalumarada Thimakka suffers hip fracture, hospitalised

Environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka fell and suffered a fracture to her hip. She has been admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru where she is 'currently in good health' according to her adopted son Umesh.

Bengaluru: Environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka was admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru on Monday after she suffered a hip fracture. Her condition is said to be stable.

Thimmakka, who collapsed on Sunday evening at her Belur home, was admitted to a hospital in Hassan. After treatment, she was found to have fractured her hip bone. On Monday night, she was shifted to Bengaluru's Apollo Hospital for further treatment.

Specialist doctors are treating her. Doctors will perform surgery today. Adopted son Umesh made it clear that 'she is currently in good health'.

Saalumarada Thimmakka grew 385 banyan trees and nurtured them as her own children. The couple - Saalumarada Thimmakka and Sri Bikkala Chikkayya - was childless for 25 years. They have planted banyan trees along a four-kilometre stretch of road between Thimmaka's village of Hulikal and Kudur. She has planted close to 8000 other trees in various places.
