Raichur: Utter chaos prevailed on Thursday after Kannada film star Kiccha Sudeep reached Raichur to campaign for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections. The police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd and bring situation under control.
The actor arrived in Raichur district today to campaign for BJP candidate K Sivan Gowda from Devadurga constituency in the upcoming elections. He came in a helicopter from Kalaburagi to Devadurga. Hundreds of fans had gathered in the area since morning to get a glimpse of the star. As soon as his helicopter came in view, fans started cheering for him. After his chopper landed, people started rushing towards the actor.
Several people broke down the police barricade to get a glimpse of Sudeep. The police initially tried to push aside the crowd but it soon became unmanageable as people started swarming towards the actor from all directions. To bring the situation under control, police resorted to lathi-charge. The actor held a roadshow on a two-kilometre stretch to campaigm for Gowda.
On Wednesday, Sudeep came to Yadgiri district where he held a grand road show for Shahapur constituency's BJP candidate Amin Reddy Patil. Sudeep campaigned amidst the crowd with a large number of fans gathered around him. The actor is campaigning for BJP candidates in many constituencies since April 18. Karnataka will go for polls on May 10 and results will be declared on May 13.
Earlier, there were rumours that the 51-year-old actor might join the BJP. The actor, however, had clarified that he just wanted to campaign for his friends but would not join the party. Sources said the BJP is banking on the actor to capitalise on his fanbase.
