Bhatkal: Police have arrested a Pakistan-based woman on Wednesday for residing illegally in Bhatkala town of Karnataka's Uttar Kannada district. The woman has been identified as Khatija Mehrin. The intelligence unit received inputs that a woman of Pakistani nationality has been residing illegally in Bhatkal for eight years. Acting on the tip-off, the unit raided her house on Wednesday after obtaining a search warrant from the court.

On verification, it was found that she got married to Javid Mohiddin Rukshuddin in Dubai in the year 2014 and came to India with a three-month visiting visa. In 2016, she entered India illegally with her three children and started residing at her husband's house in Bhatkala. In Bhatkal, she gave false documents to the local bodies to get a ration card, birth certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card and electoral identity card which have been seized by the police, SP Shivaprakash Devaraju said.

She has been booked under charges of violating the Foreigners Act and a case has been registered against her under Section 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code. The woman was produced before a judge and has been sent to judicial custody.
