Puttur (Karnataka): The nut carriage service to Gujarat from Karnataka was launched on Wednesday at the Agricultural Produce & Livestock Market Committee (APMC) premises.
The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative Limited (Campco) President S. R. Satishchandra inaugurated the service.
Speaking to media persons here, APMC President Dinesh Medu said, "This is the major project to enhance the labour of the farmers and transport their agricultural products by trains. Puttur APMC is proud of becoming the first in the state to provide this service. The Prime Minister's wish is to transport all the farmers' produce by train and it's our first step towards fulfilling it."
"Meetings were held by railway officials and engineers under the leadership of Puttur legislators in order to ensure farming products in rural villages to reach Gujarat at a lower cost. Nuts will be carried as part of an experiment until September 26."
