Bengaluru: On the occasion of 150th anniversary of Gandhi Jayanti, Justice Santosh Hegde spoke exclusively with ETV Bharat and expressed his beliefs on Gandhi philosophy.

He said that education is just information these days but moral values are being missed.

While commenting on corruption he said that corruption has not reduced but rather grown in this country.

Speaking on Gandhian philosophy he said, "Gandhi was a content person. He didn't compromise to anybody when it came to honesty and simplicity. I think if we adopt Gandhian philosophy we would be a content nation. His values and lifestyle if adopted then the nation will become rich not only monetarily but also culturally."

When asked about his understanding of nationalism, Hegde defined nationalism as 'India is first'. "There's nothing which can be equated with India, but unfortunately, our private ambitions often compromise with patriotism."

While commenting on the Kashmir issue Hegde clarified that Article 370 or 35(a) was not the original article about which there was any discussion in the constituent assembly. "This is a post-constitutional acceptance of this country. Drafting of our constitution was completed in Nov 1949. Subsequent to that the articles were included in the constitution. They were included as a transitory provision and every transitory provision has an end to it. According to me, it should have come to an end much earlier. In my opinion, the government did the right thing constitutionally."

Hegde also said that his fight with corruption will continue until his last breath, "I am 80 but what little strength is left with me I will certainly be a part of the fight against corruption."

Gandhian philosophy must be adopted by youngsters according to Hegde. "There's no valued life than what Gandhi practised. He rejected material wealth. If the younger generation adapts Gandhi's attitude of satisfaction there will be solidarity in the society."
