Karnataka Assembly session: Cong leaders ride bullock carts, Yediyurappa sits in last row

The last row in Karnataka Assembly has been reserved for former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, former Ministers Jagdish Shettar and Suresh Kumar. The first legislative session after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai assumed office witnessed the Opposition's bullock cart protest against price hike.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Assembly Monsoon Session- the first legislative session after Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai assumed office, commenced on Monday. Former CM BS Yediyurappa was seated in the last row of the house, listening to debates. The last row is also reserved for former ministers Jagdish Shettar and Suresh Kumar. Former Minister Ramesh Jarakiholi and former CM H D Kumaraswamy were not present for the House. The 10-day monsoon session will span from September 13 to 24.

Bullock cart protest

Opposition party Congress held 'Etthinagadi (bullock cart) Chalo' protest against skyrocketing of fuel and essential commodities prices. Congress leaders including Siddaramaiah, KPCC president DK Shivakumar along with others entered Vidhan Soudha in a bullock cart.

Condolences for demise of prominent persons

During the session's commencement, Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri expressed condolences over the demise of prominent persons including poet Dr Siddalingaiah, freedom fighter HS Doreswamy, NS Khed, Rajasekhar Sindhu, writer Prof G Venkata Subbaiah, former Minister Udasi, former Union Minister Babagouda Patil.
