Lockdown: Brother, sister die after consuming alcohol-based sanitiser in Karnataka

A brother and sister hailing from Gambyapur village of Hubli district died after consuming alcohol-based sanitiser. The siblings who were reportedly alcohol addicts died consumed sanitiser on Thursday night due to non-availability of toddy in the district.

Hubli (Karnataka): A 47-year-old woman hailing from Gambyapur village of Hubli district who was undergoing treatment after she consumed alcohol-based sanitiser, died at the hospital on Sunday night.

The deceased identified as Jambakka Kattimani and her younger brother Basavaraja Venkappa Kuruvinakoppa (45) were admitted to hospital after they consumed sanitiser on Thursday night due to non-availability of toddy in erstwhile Hubli district.

According to the reports, the siblings were admitted to KIMS hospital here, but Basavaraja breathed his last on Friday night, reporting the first such death in Karnataka.

The doctors of KIMS hospital declared Kattimani dead after her blood pressure went abnormal on Sunday night.

A case has been registered at Kalghatgi police station here and an investigation is underway.
