Bengaluru: Less than a week after his demand to rename the Indira Canteens to Annapoorneshwari Canteens, BJP's national secretary, CT Ravi, has made another controversial statement, saying that the Congress can open Indira Canteen or Nehru Hookah Bar in Congress Office.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP office on Thursday, Ravi said, "We remember the good work done by Nehru and Indira Gandhi. But they also made mistakes like Article 370 and others. We appreciate their good work but we also like to correct their bad decisions. We give first priority to the country. That is why we continue to make decisions that are good for the country. We have no prejudices."
Construction of Indira canteen to make money
"Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984. There were Congress governments after that too. But why the canteens were constructed and named after her during the Congress rule in 2017-18. It is purely for political reasons," Ravi said.
"There was large-scale corruption involved in the construction of these canteens since the bills were inflated for simple structures. We are against Indira canteens because of these reasons," Ravi further alleged.

No political purpose
Ravi said that Annapoorneshwari is not a political person but the Goddess of rice and a part of Indian culture, that's why he suggested the canteen to be named after her. He said that if he suggested another politician's name, it would have been politics.
"If their aim is really to serve the poor, what if it is renamed as Annapoorneshwari?" he contended.
"If they want to open a canteen with their own money, they can open Indira Canteen or Nehru Hookah bar in Congress office," he further said.
