Bellary: Karnataka's Bellary post office has been attracting visitors with its beautiful feathered and soft coated employees. The pigeon and rabbits tamed inside the premises of the post office can be seen playing with the staff. Looks alike bird sanctuary, Bellary post office is famous for its playful staff.
In the year 2016, post office superintendent K. Basavaraja brought two pair of pigeons for taming them in office premises. Gradually their number reached to sixteen in next few years.
Basavaraja also adopted two rabbits along with pigeons from the Sandur area of the district. Their population has also risen after they were nurtured by the office staff.
Post office worker Krishnamurthy takes care of heath and hygiene of these animals.
The pigeons leave their nests at the dawn and return back to their homes till dusk. They remain free to enter and make exit from the office premises at any time.
The presence of these adorable pets keep the staff involved in their work without taking much pressure. They provide calmness and keep people much closer to nature, said postal staff Jyothi.
