KSRTC strike in Karnataka: govt suffers Rs 14 crore loss

Karnataka has suffered a 14 crore loss due to the KSRTC strike. CM BS Yeddyurappa has said that government will provide police protection to transport workers who come to duty.

Bengaluru: Transport workers are on strike in Karnataka, which caused an estimated loss of Rs 14 crore to transport corporations in the state.

BMTC has a revenue of around Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 crore. KSRTC has a daily revenue of Rs 7 crore, the Northwest Transport and the Northeast Transport generate Rs 2 crore revenue each.

Crores of rupees are lost due to the strike by the transport workers. Previously buses were shut down from December 11 to 14. This caused a loss of Rs 2,250 crore to the transport corporation besides causing inconvenience to people.

Trouble to people:

People suffered problems due to protest from transport workers. A physically challenged man, who was waiting for a bus at BMTC bus station in Bangalore, died of a heart attack. In Yadagiri, an old woman and a newborn baby suffered due to this.

Strike to continue tomorrow:

The indefinite strike began today and will continue tomorrow. Kodihalli Chandrasekhar, Hon'ble President of Transport Employees' Union, said, "The government should keep the promise or else they will face the heat of the strike tomorrow."

He said during the 'Satyagraha', Covid rules were not violated and that no unpleasant incident took place.

Police protection to transport workers who come to duty: CM

Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa requested transport workers to attend duty. He said that the transport workers who come out of the strike will be provided with protection by the police. "Of the nine demands asked by KSRTC staff, eight have been fulfilled. Don't bother the public," he said.

Alternate system of private vehicles to avoid disturbance to the public in the wake of the strike:

An alternate system of private vehicles is provided to public during the strike.

* Discussion's done with private taxi, minibus, bus owners association in the entire state. They have been requested to provide an appropriate transport system.

* Space for parking of these private buses at the bus stops and units of the transport corporations are provided.

* The Railways Department has already been requested to provide more rail connectivity from Bangalore to Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Karwar, Vijayapura, Shivamogga and Mysuru.

* More Metro trains have been arranged in Bengaluru.
