Karnataka: Three killed in rooftop water tank collapse

Two persons, who were seriously injured and were admitted to a nearby hospital, died later, a senior police official said. The deceased have been identified as Arul, Nageswara Rao and Kamal Pasha.

Bengaluru (Karnataka): A water tank on top of a four-storied building collapsed resulting in the deaths of a fast food shop owner and two customers in the incident that took place near the Shivajinagar bus stand area here late on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

Two persons, who were seriously injured and were admitted to a nearby hospital, died later, a senior police official said. The deceased have been identified as Arul, Nageswara Rao and Kamal Pasha.

The water tank was situated on top of the four storied building. There was a fast food shop in a pushcart under the same building. The wall of the building was weakened by the water filled tank. The tank along with the wall collapsed on the ground. Cops from Shivajinagar police station visited the incident site and conducted an investigation.

The DCP of East Division Bhimashankar Guled, who visited the incident site, said, 'The heartbreaking incident took place on Wednesday night at 10:30 pm. The over tank of a building near Shivajinagar bus stand has collapsed. As a result, deaths and injuries have occurred. The injured were shifted from Bowring Hospital to Victoria Hospital. Apparently, the construction of the over tank on the building was don unscientifically. Proper investigation will be conducted against the culprits and action will be taken."

According to the DCP, a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Commercial Street Police Station and action will be taken against the guilty. Earlier, four migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh were killed after a wall of an under-construction apartment collapsed on them on July 21 on the outskirts of Bengaluru. According to police, the incident took place at Thirumalashettyhalli near Hoskote town.
