Kodagu: Satish, a primary school teacher of a government school in Karnataka's Kodagu district uses the best of the lockdown period by making beautiful pots from recycled plastic, to protect the environment.
He collects the waste plastics including cooking oil can, water bottles, and comfort bins, and made unique and beautiful hanging pots which can be used to provide water for the birds during summers.
"Plastic must be recycled and fascinating pots for homes can be made at no cost," said Satish. The whole nation is walking on the path shown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making India free of single-use plastic by 2022.
The bottles are decorated with beautiful pictures to make it more attractive.
Veerappa Arakeri, an engineer by profession in Karnataka's Hubbali is also spreading awareness about the menace of plastic in his area by going from house to house and collecting plastic waste.
On the same path in eradicating plastic, three M.Sc students from Andhra Pradesh's KBN College have found an ingenious way of making the best use of waste plastic, by extracting crude oil from it. The oil is produced from the vapours emitted by burning PVC plastic waste.
