Bengaluru: The Karnataka state government has decided to re-open colleges from November 17. The decision was taken by the state government at a meeting on Friday chaired by Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.

The Minister for Higher Education, Dr Aswaththa Narayana informed media persons that Degree, Engineering and Diploma colleges will resume from the announced date. But there is no compulsion for students to physically be present in colleges.

"We have provided the chance to attend college physically as well as online classes. Students can attend college whichever way they want to. Students who desire to attend the class directly have to take the permission of their parents, and a letter from either mother or father is mandatory for students to attend college, Ashwath Narayan added.

All kinds of safety measures are taken for the students. We prefer that students stay in the hostels. If any health issues persist for the students, the government will look after his/her hospital expenses, the DCM assured.

A task force has been set up in every college for the safety of the students. The task force will also be headed by District Officers at the district level. The Minister informed that the social distancing and Covid guidelines are compulsory in the colleges and are to be strictly adhered to by the Administration and the students.
