Karnataka Police will hire 206 SOC officers to collect forensic evidence

Karnataka State Police have created a special job profile in the police department. First time in the country, Karnataka State Police will have 'scene of crime officers' (SoC officers) to gather crucial evidence from crime scenes. Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa has handed over the appointment order to recruit 206 SOC officers.

Bangalore: Karnataka State Police have created a special job profile in the police department. First time in the country, Karnataka State Police will have 'scene of crime officers' (SoC officers) to gather crucial evidence from crime scenes. Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa has handed over the appointment order today to recruit 206 SOC officers.

The State Government has sanctioned 206 SoC posts. The pool of SoC will create resources that specialise in the identification, collection and preservation of evidence at the crime scenes. The SoC officers will be trained investigators and the recruits will undergo training at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). The training will also include identifying, recording and collecting evidence at the crime scene.

The primary objective of SoC officers will be to visit crime scenes, protect and gather scientific and forensic evidence. After collecting the evidence they will dispatch them to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). It leads to the early arrest of culprits. This kind of system exists in advanced countries.
