Karnataka lockdown extended till June 7

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has announced an extension of lockdown from May 24 to June 7 for 14 days to contain the spread of Covid in the state.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday announced that the Karnataka government has decided to continue the lockdown in the state for two more weeks starting from May 24 till June 7.

He made the announcement while addressing reporters after a meeting with ministers at his residence.

Lockdown is extended on the suggestions of experts and the citizens are expected to cooperate to contain the spread of Covid infection, he said.

"I appeal to the people to abide by the COVID appropriate

the behaviour of wearing facemasks in public places, maintaining

hygiene and social distancing in public places," he added.

"The restrictions already imposed in the state will continue. Purchase of essential items are allowed from 6 am to 10 am," the CM stated.

The Chief Minister said that treatment for Black Fungus free in the Karnataka government hospitals will be free of charge.

Yediyurappa also clarified that the state government has not taken any decision to cut the wages of government employees over the financial backup of covid control.

Karnataka on Friday reported 32,218 fresh infections and 353 fatalities taking the total infections and deaths due to COVID to 23,67,742 and 24,207 respectively. The State has 5,14,238 active cases.
