Bengaluru: To ban slaughter of cows in the state, the Karnataka government has decided to implement the anti-cow slaughter Bill on Monday.

As per the order, 3-7 years jail and (or) a fine up to Rs 5 lakh will be imposed under this law and subsequent offences can invite fines up to Rs 10 lakh and a jail term of up to 7 years.

The Minister of State for Animal Husbandry Prabhu Chouhan appealed to the farmers through a press release that the farmers in the state and those who transport cattle for agricultural purposes should not be confused for any reason.

Chouhan said, "The Act will be fully implemented in the state and the process of formulating the rules is almost complete and will be released. Regulations for the transportation of cattle will soon be formulated and enforced. The Police Department has been asked to work hand in hand with the NGO and Animal Welfare Board, which is involved in the protection of the cows and to take action at all levels."

The minister also said that the police department and the animal husbandry department should be closely monitoring the illegal trafficking of cows and slaughter.

The public is asked to notify the nearest police station or the district or taluk jurisdiction department if the public sees any illegal cattle trafficking and slaughter.

The minister said that the public should not take the law in hand under any circumstances. He also warned that if the authorities fail to take action, they will be prosecuted.

"In the wake of the ban on cow slaughter, there is a need for cow protection and preservation. The discussion will be made and goshalas (cow sheds) will be constructed," he added.
