Mysuru: Karnataka government announced a package of Rs 30 lakh insurance for eight elephants participating in the Mysore Dasara jumbo safari. Male elephants will be insured with an amount of Rs 3.5 lakh while female elephants will be insured with Rs 2.5 lakh. The insurance will be valid from September 13 to October 24.

Sixteen mahouts and guardians accompanying the elephants will also be under insurance coverage. The elephants namely Abhimanyu, Vikrama, Dhananjaya, Gopalaswamy, Ashwatthama, Kaveri, Chaitra and Lakshmi are included in the insurance package.

The elephants will enter Mysore palace on September 15.

In addition, a tender was called for the provision of special food to elephants. CCTV camera is also installed for surveillance. Dasara celebration will not be pompous as it used to be earlier. In the wake of the Covid pandemic, Dasara was celebrated in a low profile last year also.

Dasara celebration will commence from October 7 at 8 15 am. Cultural events will span over nine days and Dasara jumbo safari is scheduled for October 15.
