Karnataka elections 2023: PM Modi, former PM faceoff in Deve Gowda son's constituency

The Channapattana Assembly constituency has become the cynosure of all eyes as former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy of JD (S) is in the fray from that segment. Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda appealed to the voters to vote for his son. Similarly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned for BJP nominee Yogeshwar and gave a clarion call to people not to vote for JD (S) as voting for the latter means voting for Congress.

Karnataka elections 2023: PM Modi, former PM faceoff in Deve Gowda son's constituency

Bengaluru: After Varuna and Kanakapura Assembly constituencies from where veteran Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar are contesting, the Channapattana Assembly constituency, too, became the cynosure of all eyes as former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy of JD (S) chief is in the fray.

This is the home constituency of former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who is aspiring to win the poll and become the next Chief Minister. He had been the Chief Minister twice and now he is aiming to become the CM for the third time by winning from the same constituency. However, political analysts are saying that this time victory is not so easy for Kumaraswamy.

BJP leader CP Yogeshwar, who is also a former minister and a member of the Legislative Council, exuded confidence that he will defeat HD Kumaraswamy. Yogeshwar, who contested as a Congress candidate in 2008 and from the Samajwadi Party in 2013, won with a thumping majority from this constituency. However, in 2018, Yogeshar, who had contested as a BJP candidate, was defeated by Kumaraswamy. This time also the contest between the duo is very tough.

Campaigning in the Channapattana Assembly constituency has reached its peak as only a few days left for polls, former Prime Minister Deve Gowda campaigned for his son Kumaraswamy. Commenting on Prime Minister Modi's arrival, Deve Gowda said, "I had come for the first time to campaign in Kumaraswamy's constituency. After finishing this, I will go to other constituencies. The Prime Minister is coming. I know. By the time he arrives, my programme will be over. Can we say no to the arrival of the BJP? Ultimately, people will decide," he said.

"I have come for the first time to campaign in Kumaraswamy's constituency. After finishing this, I will go to other fields. Prime Minister is coming. I know. By the time they arrive, my program will be over. Can we say no to arraival of BJP? Ultimately people will decide," Deve Gowda said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a state tour, addressed a massive gathering in Channapattana and lambasted the Congress and JD (S). He blamed the Congress and JD (S) parties for political instability in Karnataka. The Prime Minister said that the people of the state should be careful while exercising their franchise.

“Congress and the JD(S) pretend to be two separate parties, but are one in their hearts. They are together in Delhi. They assist each other in Parliament," he pointed out. In the Channapattana Assembly constituency, Vokkaliga votes are decisive. So, all the political parties have resorted to their strategies to attract the voters of the constituency. Together, the former Prime Minister and the current Prime Minister canvassed for their candidates in Channapattana, and it will be known only after the results who will be supported by the voters.
