Karnataka Election Results 2023: 38 rebels may play spanner for BJP, Congress

The Congress has a maximum number of 24 rebels. All of them have been expelled by the party. Their primary membership status of six years was stripped. The BJP has a list of 13 dissidents.

Bengaluru: After the BJP and Congress announced candidates' lists for assembly elections, ticket aspirants from these parties, who were ignored, turned rebels. Many of them were lured with tickets by rival parties.

The Congress has a maximum number of 24 rebels. All of them have been expelled by the party. Their primary membership status of six years was stripped. The BJP has a list of 13 dissidents.

Shidlaghatta: Congress had denied a ticket to V. Muniyappa in the Shidlaghatta constituency of Chikkaballapur district. In the end, the party gave a ticket to Rajeev Gowda. Through this, Rajeev Gowda emerged as a new face of the Congress. But Anjanappa, who was also an aspirant of the party ticket rebelled and contested the election. There might be a roadblock for Rajeev Gowda to win this election.

Mayakonda: BJP fielded Basavaraj Naik instead of MLA Prof Linganna in the Mayakonda constituency of Davangere. However, Naik is a former MLA and he was given a ticket, but it has also caused dissatisfaction within the party. As there were more than 10 ticket aspirants, the high command preferred Basavaraj Naik as a changed face. Also here Shiv Prakash has contested as a rebel candidate.

Hosadurga: BJP has given a ticket to S. Lingamurthy instead of Goolihatti Shekhar in the Hosdurga constituency of Chitradurga district. Goolihatti Shekhar who was accused of openly criticising the government and party leaders was denied a ticket from the party. Goolihatti Shekhar was also one of the legislators who led to the formation of the BJP government for the first time in the state. However, due to not getting a ticket he resigned from the party membership and entered the election battle as an independent candidate.

Putturu: BJP has given a ticket to Asha Thimmappa instead of sitting MLA Sanjeev Mathandur in the Putturu constituency of Dakshina Kannada district. Although Sanjeev Mathandur wanted to contest again he didn't get a party ticket. At the same time, there was pressure to give a BJP ticket to the leader of the pro-Hindu organization Arun Puttila. However, for not getting a ticket, Arun Puttila contested as an independent and have thrown a challenge to BJP.

Channagiri: Sitting MLA Madal Virupakshappa was arrested by the Lokayukta police in a bribery case. To avoid this embarrassment he was not given a ticket in Davangere's Channagiri constituency. Son Mallikarjun wanted a ticket as his father could not get a ticket. However, the ticket was given to HS Shivakumar without asking anyone in the Madal family.

Moodigere: Due to many controversies sitting MLA MP Kumaraswamy was denied a ticket by BJP in Chikkamagaluru's Moodigere constituency. Deepak Doddaiah was given a ticket instead. MP Kumaraswamy. He has resigned from the party for not getting a BJP ticket. He is representing JDS and eyeing the win again this time.

Shirahatti: Former MLA Ramakrishna Doddamani has raised a banner of rebellion against the Congress party in the Shirahatti assembly constituency of Gadag district. The party has given a ticket to Sujatha N Doddamani instead of him. Ramakrishna Doddamani was a strong ticket aspirant this time.

Kunigal: Incumbent MLA Dr HD Ranganath is in the contest in the Kunigal constituency of Tumkur district. Ex-MLA Ramaswamy Gowda has contested as a rebel candidate.

Jagaluru: In the Jagaluru assembly constituency of Davangere district, former MLA H.P. Rajesh has rebelled against Congress. Here B. Devendrappa has contested Congress.

The Congress is facing rebellion in the Harapanahalli assembly constituency of Bellary district. A party ticket was given to N Kotresh. Here KPCC general secretary M.P. Lata Mallikarjuna has contested as an independent candidate.

Apart from this senior politicians Jagdish Shettar who is the current MLA of Hubballi Central Constituency and Lakshmana Savadi who was an aspirant of Athani Constituency in Belgaum district have resigned from BJP and joined Congress and are competing in the elections.
