Karnataka doctors allegedly leave bandage inside patient

Shaheen Lalasab Uthnala, a resident of Mahbubah town in Muddebihal had a normal delivery on July 7 at the town's government hospital. Doctors had then placed a bandage in her genital to prevent excessive bleeding during childbirth. However, they allegedly did not remove the bandage and sent her home.

Muddebihal (Vijayapura): In an alleged case of serious medical negligence, doctors in Karantaka's Muddebihal government hospital left a bandage inside a female patient. The bandage was removed from the genital of the patient named Shaheen Uthnala six months after gave birth to a child at the hospital.

According to the patient's relatives, the bandage was removed only recently after they gheraoed the authorities on the matter.

Talking to media, Dr Anil Kumar Shegunasi, the hospital's medical officer, said Shaheen had visited the government hospital on November 23 for a health checkup. Upon inspection, doctors found a pad-like cloth in her private part.

"The woman's relatives allege that it was the carelessness of the doctors at the government hospital that led to the worsening condition of Shaheen. A panel of experts will investigate the matter and necessary action would be taken against those responsible," Dr Anil said.

The patient's brother Hussein Jaewargi alleged that the hospital staff tried to destroy the evidence.
