Bengaluru: The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday decided to hold back the outright sale of 3,666 acres of land to Jindal Group at a throwaway price.
Earlier, several MLAs of the ruling BJP have written to Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa expressing their dissatisfaction over the government's move to give the land on lease to Ballari's Jindal Steel Company at a low rate.

In the letter, the MLAs have asked the CM to reconsider the decision to give 3,667 acres of land on lease to Jindal.
Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, Arvind Bellad, Purnima Srinivas and Uday Garudachar had written a letter to the CM alleging that land has given to Jindal at a very subsidized price.
"It is not good that thousands of crores worth of land has been given to Jindal on lease at only Rs 60-70cr. When the same decision was taken in the alliance government (CONG-JDS), the BJP leaders led the protest in your leadership. You have accused of a kickback against the alliance government. It is not right to make the same mistake in our government now," the letter read.

The leaders alleged that there has been widespread criticism in the public since the government took this decision.
"Is there a necessity for the government to make this decision in the event of Covid's hardship? How many lakhs per acre? Is not all this a matter of doubt? Is there still a kickback deal as in the alliance government? The public and media representatives are questioning now. It is the need of the hour for the state government to rethink this decision," the letter asked.
