Bengaluru (Karnataka): Bengaluru Police on Thursday arrested a cab driver for allegedly assaulting and raping a woman on Tuesday night. A case of rape has also been registered under Section 376 of the IPC.
The woman had alleged that an Uber cab driver sexually abused and raped her while she took a late night ride in Bangalore. Jeevanbheema Nagar police registered a case and intensified the investigation based on her complaint.
The woman, who works in a private company, had booked a cab to go to Murugesh Palya at 2am, after a party at her friend's house in HSR Layout, a suburb in south-east Banglore, on Tuesday.
In her complaint, she alleged that "the driver physically assaulted and raped me while coming home."
The accused is Devaraju (25), a cab driver basically from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. He will be subjected to a medical check-up after a complaint registered under Section 376 of the IPC.
However, the accused dismissed the rape allegation in the preliminary investigation. In his statement to the police, he said that he tried to wake the woman as she was sleeping.
On the other hand, it is also said that a young woman consumed alcohol at a party. But it needs to be more confirmed, said police.
