Mangaluru: The famed Kambala jockey Mijaru Srinivasa Gowda, who created a record by running 100mts in 9.55 seconds last year, has bettered his own record this season after clocking 100mts in 9.31 seconds in a Kambala event held in the region on Sunday.
Kambala is the annual buffalo race in Tulu Nadu comprising Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka and Kasaragod district of Kerala.
Gowda, 28, earned a name and fame as Usain Bolt of Kambala last year after setting the record of running 100mts in 9.55 seconds. His achievement was noticed by the central government too and Gowda was asked to visit SAI.
On Sunday in a Kambala held at Ikalabawa, Gowda broke his old record by crossing the finish line of 125mts in 11.64 seconds racing with his buffaloes. He took just 13.62 seconds to cover a distance of 145 metres at the Kambala at Aikala village where he created the record last year.
As the Kambala season started this year, Gowda started with a promising note but tripped and fell in Kambala race held earlier on Feb 1 though his buffaloes successfully paced across the finishing line with full throttle.
