Bengaluru: An IPS officer has filed a complaint at the Cubbon Park police station here, accusing her husband of harassing her for dowry.
Cubbon Park police have filed a case against seven persons including her husband and family members on a complaint by IPS officer Vertika Katiyar.
Vertika, a 2009 batch IPS officer, married Nitin Subash, an Indian Foreign Department (IFS) official, in 2011. Nitin was working in the embassy in Delhi. He had developed an addiction to drinking and smoking. The couple quarrelled several times over Nitin's addiction. Nitin assaulted Vertika during one such quarrel and in 2016 broke Vertika's hand. Nitin also threatened to divorce her as she had not given him a gift on Diwali.

Vertika has alleged that Nitin kept repeatedly harassing her for money. Nitin had allegedly received a check for five lakhs from the victim's grandmother. In her complaint, she has alleged that she had paid Rs 35 lakh while the couple were constructing their house.
Cubbon Park police have lodged an FIR under dowry, assault and life-threatening charges against the husband and his family.
