Davanagere: In yet another incident of inhuman handling of bodies of COVID-19 victims in Karnataka, the corpse of a woman who died due to the illness was seen being placed on an earthmover in Davanagere district. The video of the unfortunate incident has gone viral on social media.
In the video, the wrapped body can be seen placed in the front end loader of the earthmover. The body was later taken out and the final rites of the woman were carried out.
According to reports, the elderly woman, who was suffering from breathing problems, was admitted to the McGANN hospital in Shivamogga on June 14. Subsequently, the woman died due to coronavirus on June 17, following which her body was taken to neighbouring Davanagere district for the funeral.
The inhuman funeral came to light a day later on June 18 as the video of the incident went viral.
Taking note of the incident, Davanagere District Collector Mahantesh Belagi said, "I have noticed the videos of the funeral through JCB (earthmover). An investigation into the incident will be carried out."
The collector assured that such incidents will not be repeated in the future.

Recently, a video had surfaced which purportedly showed health workers burying inappropriately some bodies of COVID-19 victims in a large pit, allegedly in the state's Ballari district.
In the video, which triggered widespread outrage on social media, the workers wearing personal protection equipment were seen bringing bodies in black sheets from a vehicle parked nearby and dropping one after another into the large pit, dug up with the help of an earthmover.
