In a bid to promote communal harmony, a madrasa in Belagavi district of Karnataka organised a mass marriage ceremony of 76 Muslim and 25 Hindu couples on a ten-acre land at Bailawad Cross near Bailahongal town.This is for the first time that a Hindu-Muslim mass marriage was organised at a madrasa.

Belagavi: In a show of communal harmony, a madrasa in Bailahongal town in the district hosted a mass marriage of 76 Muslim and 25 Hindu couples recently.

Moulvis and priests led the marriage proceedings of 101 couples hosted by Madrasa-E-Anwar Ul Uloom.

The madrasa organised the mass marriage ceremony on a ten-acre land at Bailawad Cross near Bailahongal town.

This is for the first time that a Hindu-Muslim mass marriage was organised at a madrasa. The brides and grooms, who hailed from Bailahongal, Kittur, Khanapur, Ramadurga and Savadatti taluks, entered into wedlock.

Thousands of people took part in the mass marriage and blessed the couples.

MLA Mahanthesh Koujalgi, several seers, and leaders of various political parties took part in the programme.

Each couple received gifts worth several thousands of rupees. The gifts included a refrigerator, a cot and bed, a sewing machine, many other household items and clothes.

This unique mass marriage thus sent the message of communal harmony across the state when protests over controversial Citizenship Amendment Act are making a lot of news.
