Smuggled gold seized at Mangaluru airport

Two travellers from Dubai were intercepted by Customs officials and gold was found concealed in their mouth and specially designed shoes.

Mangalore: The Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport seized 405 grams of gold - said to be worth Rs 18.75 lakhs - from two travellers.

The travellers were identified as Moideen Kunji (48) and Mishri Naseemulla Gani (44) from Kasaragod in Kerala. They were nabbed by the Customs officials after they arrived from Dubai. Mishri flew in on an Air India flight and Moideen travelled by Spice Jet.

A statement from the Customs Department said the gold was concealed in the mouth and customised shoes.
