Bantwala (Dakshina Kannada): The Karnataka police arrested four persons in connection with the kidnapping and gang-rape
of a 16-year-old girl at Bantwal town in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka on Saturday. The incident came to light after the girl came forward to lodge a complaint. The victim stated that the accused had approached her in a car when she was standing at the bus stop on Friday at 8.15 am to board a bus for going to school.
The accused was familiar with the girl on Facebook and he raped her with his gang. Dakshin Kannada special team led by Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Bhagwan Sonavane arrested the accused KS Sharat Shetty, Maruthi Manjunath, Sathish and Idayath in Mangaluru.
According to police, the accused, Sharath Shetty, befriended the girl on Facebook and used to talk with her over the phone. Later, he reportedly introduced his relative Maruti Manjunath to the girl and after that, the latter and the girl became close. Addressing the media, the Superintendent of Police said that the accused, Sharat Shetty, called her to Mangaluru on October 8 on the pretext of enjoying and they checked into a lodge. Later, he called his friend Manjunath to the lodge to meet him. Meanwhile, Sharath Shetty raped her, later, his friends Manjunath, Sathish and Idayath also raped her.
Horrified over the incident, the girl left the lodge and reached her home. Later, she, along with her family members, lodged a complaint with the police and based on her complaint, they arrested the accused.
