Bengaluru: Though many JD (S) MLAs are planning to desert the party and join either the Congress or BJP, the JD (S) is reportedly chalking out plans to strengthen the party and to take on the ruling and Opposition parties. The JD (S), which is set to draw more minority votes in the next Assembly elections, is now trying to take back its former leader and current Congress MLC CM Ibrahim. It may be recalled that Ibrahim was expelled from the JD (S), along with Siddaramaiah in 2005, for anti-party activities.
A staunch supporter of Siddharamaiah
Senior Congress leader CM Ibrahim, who is a staunch supporter of Opposition leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is likely to rejoin JD (S). Ibrahim joined Congress in 2006, along with Siddaramaiah. Ibrahim is trying to return to JD (S), as he is tired of political upheaval in Congress party. According to sources, CM Ibrahim met HD Kumaraswamy at his farmhouse and talks turned out to be fruitful. While JD(S) is planning to give him the party president's post. Later, Ibrahim also met HD Deve Gowda at his residence. Earlier, Ibrahim at a recent event held in Shimoga said, "Kumaraswamy's hands need to be strengthened in Karnataka."
Is Ibrahim likely to quit in November?
CM Ibrahim is likely to leave Congress and join the JD(S) in the next few months. He may tender resignation to the Congress party's primary membership in November. Later, he may officially join the JD(S), sources said.
