Mangalore: The Adani Group, which took over the maintenance of Mangalore airport as per a decision taken by the Union cabinet in 2019, caused a lot of public outrage after it displayed its name on the boards and welcome arch of the Mangalore International airport. The Mangalore-based Yuva Tulunadu, which strongly oppose the move, has now for a second time filed an RTI seeking information from the Airports Authority of India on the matter.
A series of protests was launched demanding the removal of 'Adani airports' from boards of the airport soon after it was handed over to the Adani group. However, the name wasn't removed from the boards despite several protests. Dil Raj Alva, a businessman, on behalf of Yuva Tulunadu, had filed an RTI and sought information from the airport authority. The Airports Authority of India, in a statement, said the company cannot tag its name with the airport. It had said that it would notify the Adani group to clear the issue.

The Yuva Tulunadu organization has now filed an RTI application challenging the display of the company's name on the boards inside and outside the Airport. The organisation has been demanding that the Mangalore International Airport be renamed after Koti-Chennaya, the legendary twin heroes of Tulunadu.
