Police smash drug ring in Bengaluru

Police made six arrests and recovered as many as 400 MDMA tablets worth around Rs 35 lakh, 76 LSD paper blocks, six mobile phones, a car, a two-wheeler and Rs 5,000 cash from them.

Bengaluru: Police in Bengaluru arrested six people, including a Nigerian citizen, on charges of peddling drugs through Bitcoins. As many as 400 MDMA tablets worth around Rs 35 lakh, 76 LSD paper blocks, six mobile phones, a car, a two-wheeler and Rs 5,000 cash were recovered from them.

The arrested men are Kerala-based Adityan and Akil, Bengaluru-based Sherwin Suprit, Ankhet and Doumanik Paul, and Nigerian John Chukuwa.

Police said the accused were running their illegal business from a house in Kannamangala under Kadugodi police station limits. Kadugodi is a part of Whitefield, the area known for software firms.

According to the police, the accused gathered information about running a drug racket using Bitcoins from the dark web. They purchased Ecstasy (MDMA) pills and LSD strips from a local person through an app. In addition, they also bought marijuana through local acquaintances in Bengaluru. The accused used to sell Ecstasy pills and LSD for Rs 5,000 and marijuana for Rs 5,000 per 100 grams to IT professionals and students.
