Raichur (Karnataka): In an innovative move, officials deployed a drone to deliver essentials to the people stranded on an island in Karnataka's Raichur district.
Karakalagaddi island on the Krishna river had been cut off due to heavy discharge of water from the Narayanapura Dam following incessant rain over the past few days in North Karnataka.
As a result, residents of the island were stranded there, and were not able to move out to get essentials like medicines and groceries. To make matters worse, a paralysis patient on the island required emergency medicines.
Hence, Assistant Commissioner of Lingsugur sub-division Rajshekhar Dambal, asked officials from the Agricultural University to operate a drone to help the residents of the island. Medicines and other essentials were then successfully delivered to the stranded people with the help of a drone.
Raichur district, which comes under the Krishna basin, faced a flood-like situation with the river and its tributaries in spate because of rains in the catchment areas.
