Hubli: Amid growing concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus, the demand for eco-friendly Ganesh idols is on the rise as a majority of the devotees in Hubli district are enquiring and buying idols made of papers.
The district administration of Dharwad, including Hubli-Dharwad Corporation, had already raised awareness about the effect of POP Ganesha Idols.
Arun Jadav, an idol maker from Hubli, has been making Paper Ganesha idols as demand for the same has surged this year ahead of the festival Ganesh Chaturthi.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Jadav said that owing to growing awareness among the masses about celebrating an eco-friendly festival, the demand for paper-based idols has increased this year.
"I was intended to make eco-friendly Ganapathi statues for the safeguard of the Environment. The Dharwad district administration has also appreciated my work. The Demand for paper-based idols have gone high this year," he added.
He further said that the environment-friendly Ganesha idol should be promoted and provided with a platform for making and selling in the urban areas too.
It is to be noted that lakhs of devotees gather to worship and seek blessings from Lord Ganesha in Hubli. However, the celebrations this time are likely to be subdued due to COVID-19.
