Defence minister Rajnath Singh visited the ISKCON temple after attending Armed Forces Veterans Day ceremonies at the Yelahanka airbase near Bengaluru.

Bangalore: Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat on Friday visited ISKCON temple at Rajajinagar in Bengaluru after Veterans Day events at the Yelahanka airbase.

Speaking at the fifth Armed Forces Veterans' Day, Singh said, "It always wanted peace and friendly ties with its neighbours because it's in our blood and culture."

"We don't want war and we are in favour of protecting everyone's security but I want to say this in clear terms that if any superpower wants to hurt our pride then our soldiers are capable of giving them a befitting reply," said Defence Minister.

Referring to the standoff with China, he said the Indian soldiers displayed exemplary courage and patience and if that can be narrated then every Indian will feel proud.

Singh hailed the Indian soldiers who showed extraordinary courage in "eliminating terrorists on the Pakistan soil".

Rajnath Singh is likely to have a meeting with Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa on Friday about Aero India 2021. He will also discuss security and other issues with him.

Notably, the Indian Armed Forces celebrated Veteran’s Day on 14th January every year. The day was chosen as recognition of the services rendered by the first Commander-in-Chief of Indian Armed Forces, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, OBE who retired on this day in 1953.
