Karnataka: Classes to resume after students are vaccinated

Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwatha Narayana has said that regular classes will resume after all students above 18 years of age are given at least the first dose of the Covid vaccine.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister on Thursday said that the decision of reopening of educational institutions and resuming offline classes will be considered after all students above 18 years of age get at least the first dose of Covid vaccine.

Dr CN Ashwatha Narayana who is also the head of the state Covid task force said that the teaching and learning process has not stopped amid the pandemic and it is being continued through digital mode. He said attendance is mandatory for online classes, hence a hasty decision is not necessary.

He further said, the state government is cautious about the Delta Plus variant of the Covid-19. We are hopeful that the existing Covid vaccines are effective against this variant also. Narayana said that all students above 18 years of age, teaching and non-teaching staff of all educational institutes will be considered as a priority group for vaccination.

Taking to Twitter, Narayana, who also holds the higher education portfolio, said that the Covid vaccination drive for 18 and above age groups will be launched in July according to the Centre's guidelines and inoculation campaigns will be arranged on college campuses. Validation letters issued by the respective institutions need to be submitted before getting vaccinated. Head of the institution and another officer will be appointed as nodal officers in every institution, he said.
