COVID-19: Two days after funeral, BIMS staff informs about actual death

Two days after the funeral, the family members of a COVID-19 patient was informed by BIMS staff that the patient has died and they need to attend her funeral. The family already informed relatives that 56-year-old woman last rites were performed on July 18.

Belgavi: In a major goof-up, authorities at a hospital here handed over the body of another woman who died of coronavirus to a family which performed the last rites.

The incident came into light on July 20, when the kin of the 57-year-old patient received a phone call from the authorities of Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) saying that the patient has died and they need to attend her funeral.

The 57-year-old asthma patient was under treatment for respiratory illness and was admitted to COVID-19 ward after she tested positive for coronavirus.

The family received a phone call from BIMS staff who informed the quarantined son that his mother died on Monday. However, the family already informed the relatives about her demise after the last rites were performed on July 18.

The kin of the dead are planning to lodge a complaint with the APMC police against the hospital administration.
