COVID-19 lockdown: Woman attends mother's funeral through video call

In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman in Karnataka had to witness her mother's last rites through a video call due to COVID-19 lockdown. With the lockdown to contain coronavirus in force, there was no way for the resident of Doddaballapura city in Karnataka, to travel to Kolar where her mother Tayamma died.

Kolar (Karnataka): Unable to reach home for the funeral of her mother following COVID-19 restrictions, a woman in Karnataka had no other means but to make a video call to have a glimpse of last rites of the deceased.

With the lockdown to contain coronavirus in force, there was no way for the woman, who is a resident of Doddaballapura city in Karnataka, to travel to Kolar where her mother Tayamma died.

Tayamma died of a heart ailment at the age of 60 in Kolar district's Malur town.

In spite of the restrictions, upon receiving information about her mother's death, Nagamma left from her residence with her husband and eight relatives to attend the funeral.

As per reports, she first narrated her ordeal to Deputy Commissioner and requested him to give permission to travel to Kolar in order to attend her mother's funeral. As she was denied permission, she had to go back home. Thereafter, her family decided to perform the final rites of the deceased in the absence of her daughter.

As a last resort, she watched the last rites of her mother through a video call.
