Congress leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah said that the party has decided to stay away from the Assembly proceedings on Thursday in protest against the state government's decision to introduce Cow Slaughter bill, without consulting the Business Advisory Committee in the Assembly.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Congress members on Wednesday said that they would boycott the proceedings of Karnataka Assembly on Thursday in protest against the alleged high-handedness of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over the introduction of Prevention of Cow Slaughter Bill in a hurried manner.

Speaking to newspersons, Congress leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah said that the party has decided to stay away from the Assembly proceedings on Thursday in protest against the state government's decision to introduce Cow Slaughter bill, without consulting the Business Advisory Committee in the Assembly.

"Leader of Opposition is often called 'Shadow Chief Minister' in parliamentary democracy. There is no respect from the govt towards any MLA or even Leader of Opposition. This is a black day in the history of Karnataka Assembly," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

"But, all of a sudden, the bill was introduced and passed without discussion. This is the murder of democracy," he said, accusing the state government of trying to "cover up their failures and misguide people by bringing up issues like anti-cow slaughter bill. Congress will boycott (the) Assembly session tomorrow in protest against (the)anti-democratic act of Karnataka BJP," a furious Siddaramaiah added.
