Over 300 booked for violating Covid protocol in Owaisi's rally in K'taka

Over 300 people have been booked for violating COVID protocol during a public rally held by AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi in Belagavi on Tuesday.

Belagavi: Over 300 people, who had taken part in AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi's public rally in Belagavi, have been booked for violating the COVID-19 protocol. Owaisi took out the rally Tuesday afternoon at Darbar Gali in Belagavi city in support of two candidates contesting the municipal corporation elections.

According to the complaint filed by Sripad Kulkarni, who is a nodal officer for COVID-19, the MP and his supporters violated the COVID-19 safety protocol during the election campaign. People gathered in large numbers without maintaining the social distancing norms and not wearing masks.

The Market police in Belagavi city registered a case under various sections of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, the Disaster Management Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Voting for the municipal corporation election for 58 wards in Belagavi will take place on September 3 and counting on September 6.
